Another dying breed, this drive allows you to play CDs, watch DVDs or Blu-Ray movies that come on a disc.

The surface of the disc is marked with pits. This is how the data is encoded onto the disc. Each time a pit is encountered, the laser beam is not reflected and is interpreted as a 0. If there is no pit, the laser beam is reflected and is interpreted as a 1.
