I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Although Claire has edited for many directors, it is her collaboration with Chantal Akerman which was particularly significant, as our conversation demonstrates. We talked in Claire’s Paris flat on a bright Sunday morning in October 2016. I asked first about her childhood.
CA: I was born in San Francisco but we moved to New York when I was very young, and then to Paris when I was about five. When I went back to San Francisco with Chantal in 1995, I felt something familiar but I can’t say I recognised it.
RC: And why were your parents in San Francisco? ...
