Acknowledgments

This manuscript is a slightly revised version of my Ph.D. dissertation at the Yale Computer Science Department. This book is about goals and resources and relationships. In pursuing my research I have been fortunate to be a part of the Yale Artificial Intelligence Project, whose goals I have adopted, and whose resources I have shared. Most importantly, I have valued the relationships with my diverse Yale advisors, colleagues, and friends.
