sense compatibility standardization can be viewed as a form of ecodesign. We use the economic
framework introduced earlier, that is, the main functions and market effects of compatibility
standards, to explore this argument and induce in a systematic way the effects of compatibility
standards as they relate to the environment. This approach allows us to formulate propositions that
