Part 6 – Managing Risk: RBPS Management Systems
Chapters 18 and 19 covered administrative controls for managing risks from LAPP hazards. In those chapters, operating procedures (work instructions) are presented as an option for managing the hazards. Part 6 covers operating procedures in more depth, and introduces the concept of Conduct of Operations (COO), which helps minimize variations and deviations in human performance.
Another key element for managing risk is Asset Integrity and Reliability, sometimes called Mechanical Integrity. Chapter 22 provides an overview of Asset Integrity, with examples of incidents that were related to deficient Asset Integrity systems. Specifics for Asset Integrity for glass equipment is also presented.
Management of Change is important for maintaining safe operations in the LAPP. The nature of the work is to change experiments and modify work instructions. Chapter 23 introduces Management of Change.
Emergency Management establishes a rapid and safe response to incidents to manage them and minimize the consequences. Chapter 24 covers Emergency Management.
