Malware goes by many names

There are many types of malware, and every day new forms of threat arise that creatively reutilize previous forms of attack, or adopt radically new compromising strategies that exploit specific characteristics of the target organization (in the case of Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), these are tailored forms of attack that perfectly adapt themselves to the target victim). This is only limited to the imagination of the attacker.

However, it is possible to compile a classification of the most common types of malware, in order to understand which are the most effective measures of prevention, and contrast their effectiveness for dealing with each malware species:
