I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Network Intrusion Detection Systems
The typical task of Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) is to identify possible attack patterns by analyzing network traffic; that is, by processing network packets in transit—both incoming and outgoing—and detecting known attacking patterns in the flow of data.
Some of the network attacks typically detected by NIDS are as follows:
- Adware (resulting in unsolicited and malicious advertisements (AD) downloads from remote hosts)
- Spyware (sensitive information transmitted toward remote hosts)
- Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) (APT-targeted attacks that leverage specific organization flaws or misconfigured services)
