Application logging
Before we dive into the details of Java application logging, it is mandatory to understand what logs and logging are. A log is a statement that displays information to help us understand the state of the application. Log statements are written in the log files, in an application-specific format. The log statements may include information such as the date and time of execution of a particular statement, the values of various variables, and the states of the objects. The process of writing log statements to log files is known as logging.
