To determine the running services on a Linux-based system, the ps ax command will display a list of services that are currently running with their PID, as shown in the following screenshot:

As we can see, the PIDs are listed for their corresponding service. You may be tasked to stop or kill a service; to terminate it immediately on the local system, use the kill -9 <PID> command.
Let's say you would like to see any running service/process that has the firefox string – use the ps –A |grep firefox command:
