Exercise – recovering passwords with hashcat

Let's recover our first set of passwords by using Kali NetHunter Linux and hashcat. Hashcat is known as one of the fastest CPU-based password-recovery tools available. While initially proprietary, the software is now completely free and widely used not just in Linux, but in OS X and Windows. It also comes with a version that can harness the CPU of a system, but also has the ability to make use of a faster Graphic Processing Unit (GPU). Examples of hashcat-supported hashing algorithms are Microsoft's LM hashes, MD4, MD5, SHA-family, Unix Crypt formats, MySQL, Cisco PIX.
