Nslookup, by design, will query the same DNS server that the host system is currently configured to use. However, if you wish to change the DNS server that is being queried by nslookup, you can use the following command:
nslookup website.com ns1.web.net
This command will provide us with the authoritative answer to our previous query of microsoft.com:
Server: ns1.web.net Address: 65.55.37.62#53 Name: website.com Address: 134.170.185.46 Name: website.com Address: 134.170.188.221
This is useful not only for gaining authoritative information, but also for retrieving the information a certain DNS currently has cached.
