VPNs have greatly enhanced the ability of users to remotely access corporate networks while on the road or away from the office. Wireless networks can leverage the technology investments in a VPN solution by forcing all wireless clients to authenticate with the VPN. This is done by placing the entire wireless network outside the firewall and allowing only VPN traffic to pass through. In this way, all wireless clients are logically equivalent to remote access users.
