It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

A web application firewall is a security tool that sits between a user request and a web application. The web application firewall can intercept and inspect packets intended for a web application and analyze those packets for attack patterns.

- Monitors user requests
- Filters those requests based on administratively defined rules
- Blocks web-based requests to web applications that could potentially cause harm
