Requirement gathering and prototyping

As soon as the project is approved and budgeted, the requirement gathering goes ahead full-speed along with the prototype implementation. In fact, the prototype is often used as a tool for requirements-gathering. It helps to discuss specific critical details and avoid misunderstandings.  

In this project stage, the high-level design progresses, along with the discovery of more details about the sources of the input information, the processes necessary to consume it (and produce the necessary results), the technologies that can be used to do it, and how the customers may interact with the system.
