41Leader as Operator: The 4Ps of a Meeting
Leadership today is not about wearing one hat; it's about fluidly shifting between multiple roles that are all essential, interdependent, and dynamic. In this book, I have introduced the 6Es of Leadership as a modern, human‐centered way of understanding leadership:
- Envisioning: Setting strategic direction
- Executing: Translating vision into disciplined action
- Engaging: Shaping and nurturing a people‐centered culture
- Empowering: Developing others through coaching and mentoring
- Enabling: Leveraging technology and systems for performance
- Embodying: Living out values, ethics, and wisdom in daily leadership
These roles are not tied to job titles or departments.
They belong to every leader, whether you are sales, marketing, operations, or HR. Regardless of function, all leaders are called to operate across these six dimensions. They are not optional; they are overlapping responsibilities we weave into our everyday leadership practice.
In this chapter, we zoom in on one of the most misunderstood and undervalued of these roles, Leader as Operator: the orchestrator of day‐to‐day effectiveness, team rhythm, and executional discipline.
This is the part of leadership that gets strategy off the whiteboard and into reality. It's about building the habits, systems, and rituals that make high performance repeatable.
And one of the most visible and often mishandled places where a leader sets the tone for execution? The meeting.
