In this chapter we discuss the basic tools, methods, and concepts of Lean Six Sigma. This information will be applied later in the book to six common processes. These are financial forecasting, accounts receivables, new product marketing research, new product development, and supplier performance management. We will use these processes to demonstrate how to implement Lean Six Sigma within service and office operations. In this chapter’s discussion we will use Lean concepts that have been successfully applied to manufacturing and develop analogs to service and office operations. The discussion will follow the sequence shown in Table 3.1.
