Dr. Yuping Wu was born into a poor peasant family in China in 1969. His parents wanted him to become successful and financially supported his schooling as much as they could. He got a PhD from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China, in 1997. Then he moved to Tsinghua University, Beijing, for postdoctoral research. From 1999 to 2001, he was a visiting researcher at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan. From 2001 to 2003, he was a Humboldt fellow at Chemnitz University of Technology, Chemnitz, Germany. In 2003, he came back to China as a full professor in the Department of Chemistry, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. In 2015, he moved to the College of Energy, Nanjing Tech University.
