The service plugin is called for implementing higher-level network services, such as routing between networks, implementation of firewalls, load balancers on a network, or to create VPN services.
Each of the higher layer plugins implements some virtual network constructs. For example, the L3 service plugin implements the virtual router that provides connectivity between two or more networks. It also creates Neutron resource called Floating IP that provides network address translation (NAT) functionality to expose a virtual machine to external world. In the following section we will go through each of the advance services and understand how they work.
