Database Mail is SQL Server 2008’s emailing component, built as the replacement for SQL Mail. Although SQL Mail can still be enabled in SQL Server 2008 (for backward compatibility, although it is deprecated), it’s a simple task to convert all your existing SQL Mail code and SQL Agent Mail notifications to Database Mail.
