So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Performance tuning and troubleshooting are time-consuming tasks for the administrator. To help provide insights quickly into performance issues, SQL Server 2008 provides a number of new and enhanced features for monitoring SQL Server performance.
In SQL Server 2005, the Activity Monitor in SSMS showed only the current running processes and the locks currently being held in the system. In SQL Server 2008, the Activity Monitor has been enhanced and now provides a graphical overview of SQL Server activity, as well as information on active user tasks, resource waits, data file I/O, and the recent most expensive queries.
