This is the measure of the degree to which lines that have been put closely together in an image can be resolved by a person who is looking at the image. Here, the idea that the more pixels an image has, the better it appears in terms of clarity, isn't strictly true. This is due to the lower spatial resolution of the image with a higher number of pixels. Hence, a good spatial resolution is necessary along with having a good pixel resolution for images to render in good quality.
It can also be defined as the amount of distance one side of a pixel represents.
