Classification implies a categorization action, a task involving categories. A classification task then typically denotes a supervised learning technique that lets us categorize a new sample previously unseen (such as an Iris flower, whose species we do not know yet). By categorizing, we allude to the fact that the classification task is tagging an unseen sample with one of the predicted labels in the training dataset.
