Almost every book that we have read on scaling large or distributed teams recommends that feature teams exist in one location if possible. This is seen as a prerequisite to the collaboration that is so necessary in agile. However, we recognize that it is difficult, if not impossible, for some organizations to change their existing distributed structure. There may even be advantages to their distributed nature that they’d rather not give up.
