INTRODUCTION
This chapter covers the video production switcher (or vision mixer as it is called in Europe), which is used to mix between and layer video sources during a live production. It includes a description of the video effects that are provided by the switcher and also covers new developments in production automation systems. The second part of the chapter provides more details on special effects techniques, with an emphasis on systems used in the postproduction process for recorded programs.
