I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
pfSense Requirements
As mentioned previously, one of the main advantages of pfSense is that it will run on a variety of hardware. In any case, you will need at least two network interface controllers (NICs) in your pfSense machine, because firewalls traverse two or more network connections. You may need a crossover cable, as well. Many switches today perform auto-sensing; in that case, there is no need to use a crossover cable.
There are many possible configurations for a pfSense installation, but the minimum requirements for pfSense are:
- 64-bit Intel or AMD processor
- Must be able to boot from USB, optical drive, or Memstick
- Two NICs
