So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Commercial Versus Open-Source VPNs
When looking at VPN solutions, decide if you want to include the option to leverage open-source VPNs. If so, be aware of some of the trade-offs you will encounter when leveraging an open-source VPN product.
A commercial solution offers the following benefits:
- Ease of installation and management
- Available management tools
- Access to vendor support
- Available hardware maintenance
The benefits of an open-source solution include the following:
- Low cost
- Flexibility
- Ability to run on existing hardware
- Access to Internet-based support
