A bastion host OS is a system designed, built, and deployed specifically to serve as a front-line defense for a network. A bastion host is the first (or nearly so) host accessed by external entities on their way to access DMZ, extranet, or private network resources. The bastion host withstands the brunt of any attack attempt to provide protection for hosts behind it.
