It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Elements of Firewall Deployment
At this point, you should start thinking about deploying the firewall and about the services you want it to run. You have the ability to run:
- Captive Portal, which is pfSense’s authentication front end
- DHCP server
- DNS server
- NTP server
- SNMP daemons
- IGMP proxy daemon
- IDS/IPS deployment
- Virtualization
The specific collection of services should be based on the needs of the network, the existence or absence of other products, and the ability to manage and administer pfSense.
