Know Where You Are

To know which benchmark can increase the odds of achieving your long-term goals, you should know where you’re starting from and what your future needs are. To do that, do a few exercises like:

  • Create a personal balance sheet to determine your current net worth. (See Appendix D.) You can also use this to make projections about future net worth.
  • Create an income and expense sheet. (See Appendix B.) Use this to make projections about future cash flow needs.
