Game development can be a complex endeavor. In many cases, dozens of distinct egos must harmoniously coordinate their efforts to fit moving parts together seamlessly. Needless to say, this can take a lot of organization.

We use models like the software development life cycle to wrap our heads around the various processes that go into creating a complex project. This is a model of order: When do we do things and what steps follow what others? These structures are not limited to software development; you can model any product development with these systems. It sometimes only requires modifying the nomenclature.
