This chapter describes how, within PDMv3, using frequent, iterative releases, under tight release management, is integral to managing a smooth delivery of data in both Agile and Waterfall projects.
WHY RELEASES?
Although tight release and configuration management are mandated in earlier versions of PDM, the widespread adoption of Agile methods – especially scrum (see Chapter 15, ‘Agile, Waterfall and Blended’) – makes this more pertinent. Even in traditional Waterfall projects, managing versions and releases is a key feature that de-risks delivery.
