APPENDIX FINTERNATIONAL STANDARDS FOR DATA MANAGEMENT

There are several international standards published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), sometimes in collaboration with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), that are of interest to data managers.

International standards are documents developed through the consensus of experts from many countries before approval and publication. They specify rules, guidelines, processes or characteristics to which products or services should conform.

The same process is used by the standards bodies to produce technical reports. These are reports that provide additional information. Some of these reports provide information about the perceived ‘state of the art’.
