Dryers

Abstract

For the purposes of layout design, solids dryers may be considered in two classes.

In the first, there is a low airflow, only needed to carry away evolved vapor. Heating is by indirect heat transfer into the material being dried. Such dryers tend to be compact standard units, mounted essentially on one floor level.

The second type of dryer has a medium to high flow of heated air or inert gas as the drying medium. Their air-heating systems, exhaust-gas cleaning, and handling systems are often as large as the dryer itself.
