Excel and Excel Services
Excel may seem well outside the SQL Server universe, until you realize that it includes a number of features specifically geared towards Analysis Services. Excel can connect to Analysis Services natively. In the Data tab of Excel’s ribbon, you need only click the Get External Data group’s From Other Sources button, and Analysis Services will be the second option in the menu, right after SQL Server (i.e., the relational engine) itself.
Once you’ve connected, you can easily query SSAS databases or PowerPivot models using PivotTables. The PivotTable Field List will enumerate all measure groups, measures, KPIs, dimensions, attributes, hierarchies, and named sets in your database or model, and any actions will be available in ...
