CHAPTER 8Rebooting Your Limitless Ability to Learn

Do you have the ability to learn?

It's a seemingly simple question that most people will inherently say yes to without really giving it a second thought. Sure, we can all learn things. However, how far does your ability to learn extend? Does it only apply to learning simple and easy things, or does it apply to anything and everything we could think of?

Could you, for instance, learn to play the guitar or piano? Could you learn about macroeconomics, monetary policy, and the underpinnings of what drives inflation? Could you learn about quantum mechanics, string theory, and muons? Could you learn about molecular biology, gene‐splicing, and how to edit DNA using CRISPR?

Could you learn enough about any of these things to become an expert in them? Could you become world‐renowned for your knowledge and share it on conference stages across the globe?

Perhaps it's not so easy to say yes anymore. Certainly, we believe that others can learn these things, but what about us?

When you get quiet and still, what do you really believe about your ability to learn: does it have limits? Are there boundaries to your capability to absorb new knowledge?

Sure, we may not have the desire to learn about things. Perhaps it is our lack of interest that is stopping us. Or maybe, just maybe, that's an excuse we use to hide a limiting belief.
