CHAPTER 12Myth: Circumstances Control Your Destiny

How often have you heard that to succeed you have to be in the right place at the right time? Look at how easily that statement comes to mind. Over and over, we have heard the right place, right time myth.

Why is this myth so dangerous? It is dangerous because it conditions a person's perspective in a way that they believe that happiness and success are more about circumstance than substance. It is about having the good fortune to be in the right place when success comes knocking on the door. It is dangerous because it causes us to wait, hoping that situations will conspire to drive our success, rather than taking action today to build our success and create our happiness.

I once heard it said that we are all citizens of the same nation: the nation of procrastination. It's easy to put things off till tomorrow, next week, or even next year. It is easy to wait, dream, hope, and wish that the circumstances of tomorrow will be better, and success will appear on our doorstep. However, the right place, right time myth just falls flat on further scrutiny.
