Q1:I've heard Linux users talk about KDE and GNOME. Is the Fedora Core Desktop related to either of these?
A1: The Fedora Core 4 desktop is a GNOME desktop, and is thus similar in appearance and functionality to the Linux systems that offer a GNOME desktop.

Furthermore, some users prefer some of the behavioral quirks of the KDE environment (such as the busy mouse cursor while launching applications) over the GNOME environment.

Q2:Can I use KDE with Fedora Core 4 if I prefer KDE over GNOME?
