Most websites let you search the site. End users probably won’t be surprised to see the familiar search box in the upper-right corner of all SharePoint sites. Users can use this search box to search the site or list they’re viewing.

Chances are you may want a customized search experience for your site. In this chapter, I walk you through search configuration options.

Tweaking Search

Figure 26-1 shows the default search box found in most SharePoint sites. As shown in the figure, this search box is just a text box with the prompt Search This Site inside it. Type what you want to search for and then click the magnifying glass to execute a search.

By default, the search box executes a contextual search. That is, the search box searches the particular site or list where your browser is sitting.
