If you’re going to use the collaborative planning techniques with some form of sticky note brainstorming, then you should develop a set of guidelines for the effort. I use the following in my own brainstorming efforts and thought I would include them as an example. I have broken up the guidelines according to the key roles in the process.
• The initial strategy is to generate and capture as many notes or data items as possible.
• Don’t worry about the quality of the notes—spelling, neatness, correctness, and so on. That can be fixed later.
• Don’t categorize the notes.
• Capture one idea, concept, task, risk, issue, requirement, function, or object per note.
