Step-8 is the only step that can be skipped over, at least for a couple of revolutions of the Change Wheel. Often the vertical gains made at step-7 have expanded our capability enough to facilitate the change that is being sought. As a result, it’s possible to skip past the deep work and move straight to step-9. However, skipping past the deep work can’t go on forever. Once we’ve mastered the key skills and moved up the vertical ladders across the multiple lines of development in the ‘I’, ‘WE’ and ‘IT’ domains, we will hit an inevitable developmental ceiling.
