Sifting and Shortlisting

This chapter covers setting the initial sift criteria, conducting the initial sift—automatic and manual approaches, conducting the second sift, and shortlisting for interview.

The Sift is your opportunity to scrutinize the written evidence submitted by the candidate, and to decide whether it justifies progressing them to the interview stage. In order to do this you will need to systematically evaluate the evidence they have provided for each area of the person specification, and assess each area in accordance with the agreed rating scale (see Chapter 2—Laying the Foundations).
