When I vet a new strategy or tactic for a social network I think about two things. First, I think about what that platform offers that the others don't. Second, I factor in how many people can benefit from it, regardless of their industry or what product they sell or their expertise level or their access to resources or their price point or their location.

I want the advice I share to be unique, easy to implement, and effective for as many people as possible. That said, I'm also incredibly uncomfortable giving advice about things I haven't used for my own business or tested with a client or researched extensively. That's why my advice for both SEO and Google PPC was basically, “It is very important, so hire someone who knows their shit. That's what I did.”

When it comes to LinkedIn, I think there are two things that every person reading this book should use it for. This time, though, neither of them require any money or that you hire help. You can do both in your spare time, for free.
