This is a trick that has been gaining popularity because it starts by using your camera’s auto focus, but then you tweak that focus manually to ensure it’s super-sharp. Here’s how it’s done: (1) Position your focus point, so it’s about 1/3 of the way into your scene, then hold the shutter button down halfway to engage your auto focus on that spot. (2) Now, turn on Live View, so you’re looking at the scene on the LCD monitor on the back of your camera.
