Patterns

To understand how patterns work, think of floor tiles. Let’s say you need to put a new floor in your kitchen. You go to the flooring store and pick out a design you like. Many types of tile are designed so that no obvious border or seam shows between them when installed edge-to-edge. That’s the basic idea of the built-in Photoshop patterns: You fill an area with a pattern and no seam is detectable. Like flooring options, some Photoshop patterns are square (like tile) and some are rectangular (like hardwood).
