6.1.3 Reduction of Perspective and Rotation Effects
The studied method for reducing perspective and rotation effects (Section 5.2.6)
uses neural networks to estimate the roll angle between two touchless fingerprint
samples and then adopts the obtained information to compensate for the orien-
tation difference between the two fingerprint acquisitions by rotating a synthetic
three-dimensional model of the finger surface estimated from one of the compared
images. The performance of the proposed approach was evaluated using touchless
fingerprint images captured with a variety of orientations with respect to the camera.
