THE IDEA FOR this book came from retelling the story of Nokia’s transformation multiple times to audiences both in Finland and abroad. The story resonated with all sorts of audiences, from academic groups interested in case study material, to journalists keen on covering something both meaningful and entertaining, to current and former Nokians, to CEOs and chairmen interested in our lessons, and to many other groups. In almost all the events, at least one person would approach me to propose, “You should write a book.”
A major reason for me to decide to go ahead was that Nokia’s story deserves to be told. It pains me when I hear someone say, “Oh, Nokia is still around? I thought Microsoft acquired you guys.”
