This chapter presents a snapshot of the current status (at the time of this writing) of PKI and PKI-related standardization efforts. The reason for including such a snapshot in this book is to demonstrate that this field has reached at least the first plateau of stability in the various standards arenas. Not every problem has been solved; not every protocol has been defined; not every service has been specified; not every possible piece of syntax has been nailed down. But significant progress has been made, and a solid foundation for PKI implementation, deployment, and interoperation has been laid.
