Requests for Comments (RFCs) are the building blocks of the Internet. All the protocols, applications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) start as RFCs. These comment documents are then taken by various standards bodies and individuals and reviewed, implemented, and eventually published as standards. The RFC process is the cornerstone of the open systems approach. The following is a list of RFCs relevant to the topics covered in this chapter.
