The Wireless Bitmap Format
Currently, the wireless bitmap format (also known as WBMP) is the only graphical format supported by wireless devices. The WAP Forum has provided support for this type of format within the WML specification. The WAE stack specifies the WBMP format (discussed in Chapter 1).
Although WAP 2.0 includes support for color images, you might want to stick with WBMPs that consists of only black-and-white pixels. The reason is twofold. For one, most WAP devices today contain display screens that support only black-and-white images. The other reason is that the scaled-down properties of black-and-white pixels work well with the limited memory and processing power of today’s devices.
