So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Initializing a repo client and downloading the AOSP source tree
After we have the repo tool, we can initialize the repo and download the AOSP source tree by executing the following commands:
$ repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-7.1.1_r4$ repo sync
Pay attention to the AOSP tag android-7.1.1_r4 here. This is the version of AOSP source code that we use throughout this book.
It will take quite a long time to get the AOSP source tree. After we get the source tree, let's take a look at the top level folders:
